Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh visited Latimer Lodge on Friday 16th June as part of National Care Home Open Day. It was the fifth annual Open Day and the theme for this year was Friendship. Marcus spoke with residents and staff about keeping all generations connected and how homes should be an integral part of the community. He was very impressed with the high standard of facilities that Latimer Lodge has to offer.
Marcus said, “As part of National Care Home Day, I wanted to visit one of our area’s newest care homes. It was great to meet such caring staff along with the well cared for residents. It is so important that we look after the older generation, our parents and grandparents, and give them the support they need in later years. Loneliness can be a worry for older people but that is certainly not the case here and I found a real sense of community.
“It was also wonderful to see a new Yeovil business flourishing and setting high standards of how good residential care accommodation can be. There are concerns elsewhere about social care which do need to be addressed but they should not overshadow the brilliant and unselfish attitude of the hard-working staff in care homes and the atmosphere they help to create.’
