Yeovil MP Visits Leonardo and Pays Tribute to Somerset Businesses
South Somerset MP Marcus Fysh visited Leonardo last week to see how the company is working through the Covid-19 restrictions. The site is leading the way in continuing to work whilst having social distancing measures with staff also working in shifts and at home where possible. They have also made a huge contribution to the local effort on PPE by designing and manufacturing reusable masks for the NHS.
No Leonardo staff have been furloughed as work continues on critical programmes meaning the company has avoided unnecessary business interruption whilst also saving the taxpayer money. Mr Fysh met with new Managing Director Nick Whitney, and his team as well as union representatives to thank them for their efforts at this challenging time and disuss future opportunities.
“It was great to visit Leonardo again and in particular to see the really positive approach they are taking towards beating the coronavirus. Other local companies like Honeywell and Numatic are also doing a huge amount to make the kit we need to save lives and keep people safe. I am so proud of what we are doing in Somerset to beat this terrible virus.
As we see the beginning of the relaxation of some of the rules in place to stop the virus, Leonardo is a shining example of how we can get businesses and the economy firing again.”
