Marcus Fysh MP has welcomed the news that the Boundary Commission for England has adopted his proposal to change the name of the constituency to Yeovil and South Somerset. In addition to submitting the proposal to the Commission, Marcus ran a petition to show support from local residents. The proposals are otherwise largely unchanged with a reduction in the total number of MPs and equalisation of the size of constituencies.
Marcus adds, ‘My thanks to everyone who signed the petition or shared their thoughts on this proposed name change. I think it’s important that the name reflects that we have wonderful towns and hamlets as well as a great largest town in Yeovil, and this change gently reflects that as well as the blend of urban and more rural areas that we enjoy.’
There is now a consultation on the revised proposals which runs until 11th December 2017. Submissions are encouraged on the website www.bce2018.org.uk
