As a father and as Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Education I want more, better educational opportunities for our children, and have lobbied hard for fairer funding for Somerset. I am delighted therefore that 50 of our local schools will benefit from increased spending in each of the next 3 years to level Somerset up relative to urban area schools. Many will receive about 8% more per pupil funding this year alone, with some rural schools receiving as much as 30% more. There is also £780 million more nationally for Special Educational Needs, and an uplift for 16-19 year old funding which I personally lobbied the PM for. Along with success in bringing T-levels, more apprenticeships and an Institute of Technology to Yeovil College, and some great exam and qualification results, I feel we are making good progress and need to keep building on it, with attention as well for early years where the funded hours we introduced have been a success but more support for providers is required.
