Championing Health & Care

Our 5-year funding plan for the NHS will deliver an extra £33.9billion a year by 2023 with additional boosts for key areas such as mental health, exceeding our pledges to secure more funding. I helped get an extra £25 million a year for the Hospice sector which I hope can help reverse the charity trustees’ too hasty decision to close St Margaret’s in-patient unit, and I am lobbying hard to ensure we look at funding for social care, hospice and end of life care together in order that our communities have choice and are best served. The rural and ageing nature of South Somerset makes these services essential and the Prime Minister and Health Secretary have asked me to be involved in designing reforms in this area that can get more money into the system and make it fairer and more effective.
